There were tourists and big groups everywhere. My group travelled with a Holocaust hidden child survivor whose parents had been killed at Auschwitz. If I had gone alone or with any other group, it would have been less personal than what it was. Birkenau (Auschwitz II) is huge, and the barracks are haunting. I walked the rail road for ages it seemed.
