Movies in a Small Town

One of the great places in Wolfville is the Acadia Cinema, which is a movie theatre that was recently renovated by a cooperative. In the lobby is a cafe that serves Fair Trade coffee. I love going to films, drinking coffee and being able to walk to see a movie. Much better than a DVD at home.

This sounds like a great place

When I was going to grad school in England there was the best art house cinema in the center of town that showed 3 different movies each day and 50-75 different films a month. Remembering this place led me to go seek it out to add to 43 Places, but I just read it closed in 1999. What a loss. It was tempting to drop out of school and just watch movies.

In my Seattle neighborhood a cinema recently opened, and while I have only gone once, it surely was great to go to cinema where I could walk

Movies and Places

Maybe it’s just me, but I think that there’s something special about seeing films (good films) in a place that sometimes forms associations between the place and the films you saw there. Being able to walk is great as it lets you gradually reenter the real world after being in a reel world. Driving doesn’t let you ease out as smoothly.
