Worth visiting!
The first time I went to this place
Lopez is supposedly the flattest of the 3 big San Juan Islands, and the loop around the perimeter of the whole island is only 30 miles. So like the biking guidebook hinted, one of the challenges is actually to not fly around the whole island and then have nothing to do for the rest of the day. Spending time at Spencer Spit (looked like a very nice place to camp… walk-in sites in the woods right by the water), then getting coffee and wandering through a gallery in Lopez village helped.
I forgot my rain gear at the B&B on San Juan island and realized it halfway through the ferry ride. Sure enough, it was the only day on the three day weekend that it rained on us. We got about 10 minutes of steady soaking, and took cover in the Southend Deli. Unfortuantely the cafe part was closed because it was Sunday, but they let me microwave a can of tomato soup we found. After I was done and warmed up, the rain stopped, and we cruised around the bay at the south end of the island.
