Worth visiting!

A question about this place:
Hello Seattle people! Any thoughts on where to take a visiting foodie friend who is vegetarian, has a 5 year old and is on a budget, for lunch on Sunday? I had thought Vios but they are closed on Sunday. Thanks!  — 2 years ago

As Seattle is one of the most veggie friendly towns in the world it would be hard to find a place that doesn’t honor the tastes of vegetarians. But I must point out that if you are on a budget Vios is not the amongst the best possible places you could take the foodie friend on a budget. Talk about pricey and small portions. At any rate, I’d take them to The Blue Star which is located between 45th and 50th on Stoneway or go to Persimmon in Fremont. Persimmon is a little bit pricier than the Blue Star but the veggie hash rocks the house. Also there is the Portage Bay Cafe on Roosevelt. They tend to get SUPER busy though and I personally prefer Persimmon.

How about lunch in Madison Valley? You could pick between an ultra causual blunch at The Essential Bakery Cafe or a fancier vegitarian meal (but not pocketbook breaking) Veggie feast at Cafe Flora.

After lunch I’d suggest a trip across the street to Izilla Toys – one of Seattle’s great toy stores. You could keep shopping back over at City People’s Garden Store or take a stroll through the nearby Arboretum. There is enough at all these spots to keep a kid engaged and allow for quality adult conversation.

Thanks Josh,

I had thought to get some take away and have a picnic in the park, weather permitting. My friends daughter is really into picnics at the moment and would love the arboretum.

Thanks Matthew! I haven’t heard of the Wayward, I will check it out.

I use to love Cafe Flora but over the last year or so I have noticed the quality slipping. Last time my food was really cold by the time it hit the table.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Does the place have to serve ALL vegetarian or vegan food?

If so, then—on a budget—the Globe would be my choice.. mentioned aboved. You get very hefty portions for what you pay for…

Apparently, Coffee Messiah does great vegan brunches on Sunday as well, although I haven’t been there.

Otherwise, if you can eat dairy, and would be ok with a place that also serves meat dishes, I can’t think of too many places open during lunchtime on Sunday that don’t have potentially great vegetarian fare… I don’t know where to start.

I like Ballet. It has a big ol’ fish tank smack front and center for the young ‘un and great, simple asian veggie dishes. Bear in mind, I’m a meat lover, what do I know.

Also thanks all! I’ve got this all worked out now. :)
