The most famous of all Canberra’s fake lakes, it is a popular destination to walk, ride or roller-blade around, has lots of nice spots for picnics or BBQs, you can feed the ducks, be chased by swans, freeze your a**e off in winter… it is also a popular make-out destination after dark. Oh and they have the fireworks here for skyfire and new years eve (if you are unlucky enough to be stuck in canberra for new years eve).

you can also sail boats on the lake, but i don’t recommend swimming in it (you can swim at acton peninsula).

If it’s a cold day, you get a nice view of the lake from the warmth of the national museum cafe, which doesnt’ have exciting food but is worth it for the view.

It was named after Walter Burley Griffin, the american who designed canberra.
