Worth visiting!

Do not walk on the grass...

This was the only place in new york where i came accros a ‘do not walk on the grass’ sign, but i think it was just a temporary thing while they re-seeded the lawn. It was terribly disappointing to come across such a lush green expanse of grass after walking through the grey city all day, and not be allowed on it (particularly since where I’m from it’s almost always brown due to lack of rain), which coloured my impression of the place a little.

Still, it had a hip, cosmopolitan feel to it – I felt like an outsider as the only one without a laptop and coffee.

It also has a cute, quaint carousel, that made me wish I was young enough to ride and enjoy it.

All the park lawns are closed from time to time to give the grass a break and keep it green. It’s easier (and, I think, less expensive) than constant reseeding.

point conceded

Yeah it’s just that where I live it is almost impossible to keep a lawn going because of the lack of rain and consequent restrictions on watering, and yet they let anybody walk on it, because that’s what they are there for.

But I guess if it’s only tempoarary, and with the number of people you would have walking on it in NYC it is understandble.

and as far as I can tell they have nothing on the English ‘don’t walk on the grass’ obsession. At oxford you are only allowed to walk on it if you are a student.
