Worth visiting!

A review of this place: a real backpacker's nightmare

Unfortunately due to the extreme popularity of this world monumental site, the “Inca Trail” up to Machu Picchu is now highly regulated and the perfect treat for someone looking for a unique backpacking experience where porters carry your food and tents and kitchens up the mountain, while you skirt along beside them. On the other hand there are MANY other ruins in Peru and especially near Cuzco that can be approached by three or four days backpacking on trails that are not nearly as crowded and comfortable as the inca trail. That being said, Machu Picchu definitely takes the cake for its remote and breathtaking settings. Get there early and avoid the flood of tourists or sneak in at night for an incredibly spiritual experience.

Flood of tourists

This made me chuckle, are you not a tourist?

¿am i a tourist?

by all popular opinion of the word, of course i am a tourist! however i draw a subtle difference between the energy and effects left by a flood of them wheeled in on private busses and exclusive trains to be herded around or let lose on site, and the effects left by a traveler who walks the world alone or in small groups of like-minded concerned world citizens in order to gain insight on themselves, their planet and their fellowman.

Perhaps you really wanted to ask me if I define myself as a “tourist”, in which the reply would be no. Its something id be happy to discuss privately and not on this page.
