1 long island is sure enough the type of place you have to grow up in to appreciate. but what about those homeless places you pass in the city and you see a person laying on hte street you learn to appreciates what you have when somebody else dont haveit. So you cannot talk that mess about long island new york aka strong island sweetue thank you

The word “appreciate” has a few slightly different definitions. I meant “appreciate” as in…”recognize” or “understand.” There are aspects of life on long island that are unique to long island. Cultural nuances or experiences, like driving on the l.i.e or living near a beach. These things tend to be universal for people who grow up on long island, or have spent a lot of time there. Therefore, they are “appreciated” (recognized, understood) in a way different from those who have not grown up there.
That probably isn’t the most coherent explanation of word usage, but it’ll do.
I’m not quite sure I completely understand the message or point of your comment. Drawing comparisons to the plight of the urban homeless was not my intention. Um, sorry if there was any confusion?
