If the world were perfect, Wunderbar would be world reknown. And perhaps it will be one day. For now, consider it one of the world’s greatest secret nightlight wonders. It’s run by a man who moved to New Zealand from Berlin, (then West) Germany in 1981. His goal was to create an escape within an escape within an escape, literally.

Many popular musical acts who play a show in the South Island occasionally play an unannounced show here simply to relax and enjoy a night to themselves, while pleasing the few locals.

The amount of detail put into this place is just unmatched. I’ve never been to a nightclub that has had this much love put into it. Seriously. I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the place, thanks to the very friendly owner, during the day. Now to come here at night some time in the future.
