I’ve heard Utah has one of the highest number of households online, so you may want to go to a social network and see who’s there from Utah.

I think people are people anywhere you go, so just put yourself out there and go to bars/clubs/lounges even tho the alchohol content is lower, or just get involved in things U like to do and the social scene will take care of it self. you get what you give

I’m amazed at how negative the responses to my question have been. It’s really easy to meet new people here. There are art galleries, inexpensive introductory classes, cooking classes, bars… many free events. It’s certainly not a big city, but there are still a lot of solutions.

Because it had been a while since I’d been back to SLC and things have changed quite a bit (attitudes included). My friends and family have all moved away, so I’m pretty much starting fresh in a new city.
I couldn’t help but look at your profile. I moved to Portland several years ago to get away from Utah. It was a great experience and I know you’ll enjoy it. (Although seriously – the drivers are just as bad. Except they go 30mph rather than 80. Don’t even get me started on how outdated their freeways are.)
But what is the point in being miserable here? I came back with a fresh perspective and have found SLC is actually quite fun. SLC that is – not Cedar City.

If that’s what you want, then go get it. application and strong heartfelt effort never fail.

Don’t get hung up on the dominant culture, Mormonism, as you will find plenty of folks who will love to feed that hang up. In the end, they will end up depressing, and isolating you.
While there are plenty of cases where their complaints are valid, you will also find just as many or more opportunities to make friends with Mormons.
The rich and varied outdoor activities are also a good way to meat people.

While wouldn’t do it myself, as I have had the experence for 14 years first hand, you could always go to a LDS (aka Mormon) church and meet some of the locals that way.

I totally agree. Do what you like to do and you’ll find people who like those same activities too.
