: / It depends if you want to boild yourself or not :)) it is the hotest time of the year and lucky people go to the beach; so coast side should be full of foreigners and spanish wishing to have a nice holidays and nice tan.
If you want colder weather, North is better then. I have heard Barcelona is a nice place (never been, im from the South)it´s a big city, it has beaches, and im sure there are lots of things to do in summer; i dont know about the festivals; im sure there are lots of them over thre too. what kind of festivals are you talking about??? music, i guess , but what kind? or are dance festivals?
If you prefer other not such urban trip, over the south you can also find a different way to spend your holidays. you have monuments like Alhambra in Granada or visit the natural park of Cabo de Gata in almería. (sevilla is not a good place to go in August but it´s a beautiful place known by his “colours and light”) Málaga is the touristic place by excelence and i dont recommend it to you unless you want to be another foreigner in a place full of them…well,you can always find a good place in that full of t. area.

As a local spanish guy. I would hardly recommend to visit my city “málaga” as known as “costa del sol” in august is our local party time called “la feria”.

We are the 5th big spanish city and were located in south of spain, so sun, culture and beach!.
