The visitor area at Ames wasn’t as big as I expected but it had some interesting exhibits for space enthusiats and general geeks. Right now they’ve got a lot on the robots they use in space exploration, with the centerpiece being the Mars Rover.

If you’re in the area it’s worth dropping in. Check the hours first as they’re not open every day.
