Going, want to or not...

Just kidding. Seattle’s got it’s good points and I’ve enjoyed visiting before. Problem—this time the visit is so short as to make one laugh. We’ll fly in around 8, Brett interviews at 10 in the Fed building (where even IS that?), we’ll have lunch but we have to be on a plane at 4.

So…wow. I guess I’ll go ask a question and see what the natives have to say about what to do with about three hours in Seattle!

The Federal Bldg

The Federal Building is right smack in the middle of downtown, 1200 6th Avenue.

With transit from SeaTac to downtown and time getting through the airport, you’ll just make it downtown with time to get a cup of coffee before 10. And with traffic, you might want to head back to SeaTac by about 2:30.

If you don’t have to be around for the interview, I’d kill time in Pioneer Square, just South of Downtown. Browsing the Elliot Bay Bookstore is one thing you could do in a couple hours that might actually be worth a trip to Seattle. You can round out the visit checking out galleries and coffee shops around Occidental Park and he can walk down from the the Federal Bldg to meet you. I’d grab lunch at Salumi or walk over to the ID for a quick lunch and grab a cab to the airport.

Thx, Josh!

Yeah, I knew it was laughable. Man, forever to get from the airport—I AM a small-town girl. Brett says it’s 18 miles, and I can’t imagine how 18 miles can take that much time! I guess I’ll soon learn…

Seattle was great--

We wandered Pioneer Square a bit. We got there early enough that things weren’t really open right away. Brett wanted to go right into the Fed Bldg and get squared away. So I headed uphill to 2th and Pike, figuring that first hour would be more interesting at the Market than anywhere.

Man…9:45 am on a Monday morning, shops still setting up, hardly anyone there, and I can go anywhere I want without worrying if someone else is bored or weirded out. And tulips are on. Pike’s Place was so fun under those circumstances, I stayed an hour and a half (including a walk along the waterfront and a few minutes with my journal).

Brett’s interview was over, he was hungry-we had French toast at Planet Java because he was dying for syrup, lol (we always end up eating in the dumbest places-he’s just like that). I didn’t dare walk into a bookstore at that point—we’d have missed our flight. We did stop by a little park in Burien and walk the beach a bit, picked up some shells to take to the kids.

For myself, I brought home a print of a painting of the tulip harvest.

I want to go back, now.
