Worth visiting!

Chepu River Kayak

Great experience !! Kayak in the Dead Tree Valley at Chepu. Area of wetlands and dead trees, caused by a Tsunami that followed a huge earthquake in 1960 left thousand of hectares under water, lowering the ground in app 2 mts. Amazing how nature restarts over and over again!!
Kayaking in between dead trees is overwhelming!, feeling transported to ancient times. Area with great endemic fauna and flora, plus birds that remain next to you while kayaking. Superb for birdwatchers!
IMPORTANT : contact Fernando & Amory at Mirador de Chepu, they have kayak rental and organize everything you may need: transportation, food, lodging, anything! just ask them. Great disposition, humor and very friendly.
You may contact them by mail : mirador@chepu.cl
Trust me & have great fun!

Conde
Isla De Chiloe

Much more than Penguins and Churches

I used to live in Santiago Chile for 45 years and moved to Chiloe 4 years ago looking for a better way of living. I left behind part of my live and with a mayor city living experience I came to live in a better place without contamination and stress, drastically changing my lifestyle. At first, searching for the place to settle down, I traveled all over the Island and found other exciting places other than Puñihuil and their penguins and the Mayor wooden Churches mentioned in the international travel guides. There are other non divulgated places, beautiful, amazing & very little known. Chepu and the Dead Tree Valley is one of them. This quiet Rural place with few inhabitants has a treasure of a unique landscape that shows the effects of a huge Tsunami on 1960. You can visit Chepu wetlands renting kayaks and enjoy the Dead Tree Valley and great bird nesting place – special for Birdwatching!. You can rent horses and have Trekking at Chepu´s entrance to the Sendero de Chile.
Camping and rural accommodations are available too! This area has 4 rivers and 2 beautiful beaches, so fishing is good too. As it is a small village no stores are available to buy food – take your own! Although sometimes you can find where to lunch at rural homes.
