Worth visiting!

Lived near here as a teen

My aunt Jane ran the restaurant at the attraction when I was a teenager, and my gram lived downstream. It is a magical place in many ways… or was… not sure… that was 20 plus years ago. Taking the river on a small row boat is the best way to visit. So much wildlife, especially birds and prehistoric looking fish, gators… baby gators that hiss at you when you coo about how cute they are… There was also a bald Eagle’s nest on the WW river, and I have heard that the eagles are still nesting there. I am going this summer (for my cousin’s wedding), but the best time to go is between January and late March.

thanks for the entry

I lived sorta near there when I was a kid and wanted to go but never got the chance. A few years back its financial problems seemed to get national news coverage. That reminded me of it, and since it’s still around I think it would be fun to see sometime. :)

weeki wachee groupies

Weeki Wachee was such a cool place on so many levels, which I appreciate more in retrospect than I did as a smartalec teenager. For instance, compared to the cheezy Disney, Busch Gardens, and etc shows and rides… well, it was the real deal and never ersatz nature. There was a little danger too… I mean real gators, raptors, and other wild animals within sight and reach! Plus it was just so beautiful. I imagine that the rain forest is like that… dense and cool and wet. The water park was always fun and too loud… but that came after the original park. I had girlfriends and cousin who were mermaids! Seems like that would have been a big deal, but it never was. We had my Senior Prom there in 198? So, it was a big part of my teen life. Ah, nostalgia.
