It's ok... by lmp784

I put the ‘worth visitng’ tag because I love my country, but Sydney just doesn’t do it for me.

The people are rude.

The place has no structure – the city is ALL over the place.

Everyone is way TOO busy and in a hurry (whilst in New York, they are too, but they aren’t angry about it)

There is NO WHERE to get a good coffee.

Newtown is pretty cool though, they have great vintage stores.

It’s weird that more ppl. want to go here than to Melbourne – I know it’s my home town, but I have heaps of friends from Sydney who hate it, and have moved to Melbourne because they find it more accepting – I guess if you’re alternative you’ll enjoy Melbourne more. If you like the water, the beach and a yuppie lifestyle, then go to Sydney!

look, i’m sorry, but you’ve got that one very wrong.

I read your NYC entry & I’m glad you had a nice tourist experience, but i’ve lived in both places and i know very well that sydney is alot, ALOT more friendly & laid back than new york city.

note to everyone else:

Sydney & Melbourne are fairly intense rivals and it’s rarely educational to listen to a person from either city compare the two.

Melbourne

You’re right about the rivalry – but let me tell you, I went to Sydney with an open mind, but left upset because of a v. bad experience.

I went with a gothic friend of mine, who virtually never gets any stares/glares in Melbourne, but in Sydney, EVERYONE was looking at her, laughing, pointing and yelling rude comments. – That aint’ no where I want to live.

But when people knew I was a tourist in New York, they would go out of their way to help me out, even taking me five blocks down to CBGB when I couldn’t find it. – Maybe it was because I’d heard New Yorkers HATE tourists, so was expecting them to be really horrible, but everyone was really lovely. Whilst with Sydney I heard was great, but found it really boring – and had a huge headache because I couldn’t drink their terrible coffee!

- But, it is an opinion, like everyone elses reviews. I like Melbourne more because we seem more open minded, more cultured (HEAPS of Sydney ppl. have told me how lucky I am to live in Melbourne) and have really, really good shopping.

But that’s just my opinion.

be serious you cant compare new york to sydney , two totally different cities and about as far removed from each other as you can get, i’ve also lived in both and the fact you live in melbourne clouds your judgment i think, for openmided people take a walk down williams street to the cross…it’ll open your eyes
