In 2000 I drove through here on Hwy 1, but didn’t spend any time in the city. This June/July I’ll spend some time there – and am going to try and be up there for the longest day, June 21st.

Take a ferry to Grímsey Island, just north of Akureyri, on either June 21st or 22nd (it varies which of the two is longer every year), as this is the only part of Iceland that gets bisected by the Arctic Circle, hence you can experience a “night” where the sun never fully sets once or twice a year — but only just barely… and either June 21st or 22nd will be that day.
