It is absolutely the BEST city in the Mediteranean area!
Rijeka just has it all – fantastic crystal-clear sea, great shopping areas, lots of completely different restaurants and caffés to suit everyone’s interest and it looks just beautiful on top of everything.
I’ve been there three years ago for the first time and am returning ever since.
If you want to visit Croatian seaside, you must not miss this place!

i live in rijeka and i think it’s not as good as you think

it is a city with the greatest rock and underground scene in croatia,so that’s the reason why i like living here.But it’s dirty,and shopping areas suck…The sea is awful
people are great,we’re all like one big family but the city itself is ugly.

The sea got rather fucked up over the last three years, that’s true, but I didn’t pay attention to that since I was always on beaches in Lovran :)
Mattering the shopping areas and the dirtyness – that’s something a tourist will not notice in the week or two he is spending there. Compared to other touristic locations shopping areas are great, though I agree that if I lived there I would find them cathastrophic.
