Worth visiting!

Where the heart is

Similarly to Seattle as a whole, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the LC. There’s a lot to dislike: the Pioneer Days parade in the summer, Lake City “Park” (despite rennovacions recently, it’s still just a block-long cement bum magnet), Rick’s, Bill Pierre, etc. But, it is getting better. There’s actually quite a bit of good eating there now: Cafe Long for good Vietnamese (though a couple summers ago there was issue with a fire, I’m not sure how they’re doing now), MAD Pizza, Toyoda Sushi, Thai One On, Tub’s Gourmet Subs, Taco Del Mar (not that there isn’t always a TDM around in the Seattle area), Jalisco, the Enat (Ethiopian food on 15th, technically in Pinehurst), and of course, the famous Dick’s Lake City location. Cranium’s Collectibles (near Dick’s) is fairly cool and has a cute cafe attached. All in all, I love Lake City because it is where I’m from, no matter how far away I get from it.

Portland

I went to elementary school in Lake City. At Sacajawea elementary. In 1989-90. I remember There was a park nearby that I always wanted to go to.. But I never did because… well I was 9 and I had to take the school bus home. When there was a snowstorm and the busses couldn’t get out, my parents set out skiing from Greenlake to come rescue me. My bus driver, who was from a foreign country which I imagine had difficult roads, was very intrepid and managed to get us part way home. Because of these things, Lake City to me sounds like mystery and adventure. I havn’t been back though for a vey long time.
