We stayed in the campsite on the northern edge of the city called Camping International:

I think it was about €15 per night. It’s a fair distance from the city centre (about 9 Km) but there’s a regular, cheap bus link to the Metro system.

There is a very very nice one near the center of town, in one of the nicest spot out there : http://www.fuaj.org/eng/hostels/aj_fiche.php?aj_id=115 , on the slope of the Fourviere hill, in the middle of a park, up the coolest borough, St Jean.
It’s realy worth it

Amen to what Idril said. I also wrote about the Auberge de Jeunesse in my entry here on 43Places. Here’s the info:
To backpackers and other not-so-affluent travelers I highly recommend the Auberge de Jeunesse du Vieux Lyon, it is a neat orangey-red building on a hill overlooking the city (right above Old Town) and the view is breathtaking—as is the ascent, by the way, especially with a heavy backpack and in the summer! The AJ is quite affordable and nicely furnished. They have a great breakfast room, too, and in the summer you can eat outside. If you need to call someone there’s a phone booth right up the hill :o)
When I went to Lyon the new auberge had just opened about a week ago and I stumbled upon it by accident (that is, because they kicked me out of the old auberge in Venissieux, which is an ugly building situated at the edge of town in the middle of an industrial zone, and is very hard to reach by public transport). So I guess I was lucky, because the new auberge was still brand-new and pretty empty. These days it would probably be best to make a reservation, as I’m sure everyone traveling to Lyon has heard about it by now. By the way, the terms “old” and “new” auberge may be confusing, as the “old” auberge (which has been around longer) is really in a “newer” (concrete) building, whereas the “new” auberge is in an “old” / historic building.
Enjoy your trip!

Thx@all! I think i’ll try thi auberge de jeunesse near the center town though it’s too late to make a reservation now. I’m realy looking forward visiting Lyon. And the auberge seems to be great. Hopefully I’ll get a room there. I’ll tell you when I’m back.

It was realy cold in Lyon. So I stood in the youth hostel. There is only the “new” one left. It is situated near the tram-station “vieux Lyon”. You have a great view over the hole city there. You’re almost in the city-center. The people working there are very friendly. They even offer a guided city tour for free.
On the other hand it’s not so cheap. You have to pay 18 Euros without and 15 with youth hostel membership. Nethertheless this seems to be cheaper than any hotel in Lyon.
By the way: Lyon is WORTH VISITING!
