Tarrytown

Worth visiting!

Been there? I live there.

I’ve been here in Tarrytown for a couple years after previously living in Stamford, CT and growing up outside Ann Arbor, MI (Manchester). Lots of cool moderately old stuff around and the Hudson River Valley is lots of fun, as is NYC just a 30 minute drive to the south.

Any place in the area

you would suggest? A resturant? Coffee shop? I like the area and drive up there sometimes. It would be nice to try some place new

places

For coffee, definitely hit up Coffee Labs on Main. They roast their own and make some damn fine coffee. They also have art on the walls from locals and the staff is great.

As for restaurants, if you’re feeling cheap and huge, Lefteris is the place to go. It’s often packed in the summer, so expect a bit of a wait, but the food is great and you get lots. If you’re feeling a bit more high brow, check out Chiboust, a French bistro down the street. Either way, definitely stop into Mint, a little European style market where you can sample anything in the store and the owner stocks some really fantastic stuff. Be sure to try the cheeses and the rosemary ham.

If you like hiking...

The Rockefeller state park preserve is also in Tarrytown, though you’d have to take a cab if you come up on the train. Great park with fantastic trails. There’s also the Kykuit tours, up at the Rockefeller mansion, which are also a lot of fun.
