Old Spaghetti Factory

Worth visiting!

I'm kind of partial for romantic reasons  — 2 years ago

Back in 1970, a poor university student couldn’t afford much for a first date… a dinner and a movie could literally break the bank…

But @ $3.75 or so for a salad, plate of spaghetti, dish of spumoni ice cream, beverage and all the sourdough bread you could eat… well that was “doable”.... and oh so good.

The concept was a very simple one: take an old warehouse in a historic part of town and fill it with antiques and artifacts, provide the finest pasta and superb service, to make an extremely unique dining experience.

It opened early 1970, I first took my future wife there in the fall and I still eat there at least once a year (don’t get to gastown all that often now)its still great value (just a little bit more expensive 36 years later!).

My choice is usally a Manager’s favorite (choice of two sauces); Fresh Mushrooms (in a rich Italian tomato sauce) and Browned Butter & Mizithra Cheese— rich beyond belief.

My choice too!

I’ve been going there since the first restaurant opened in Portland, and Spaghetti Factory is still a startlingly good bargain.
