Worth visiting!
Beautiful Oberstdorf
I can recommend Oberstdorf very highly. I travelled there and arranged accommodation through Alpine Holiday ( http://www.alpineholiday.co.uk ), staying in a luxurious apartment overlooking the Alps. The people in the village were very friendly and there was plenty to do – skating, skiing, golf, walking and cycling. The ice-rink was where Torville and Dean trained and there are 3 ice pads, so finding a session to skate was not difficult. As a skater myself, it was lovely to skate in a rink with views of the mountains and the cable-car going past.
After all this activity Oberstdorf has a beautiful park where they play live music and people of all ages and shapes get up an dance, presumably to work off some of the amazing gateaux on offer.
Eating out was easy enough and the food was plentiful and interesting. Be warned that as elsewhere in Germany you have to complete an IQ test before disposing of rubbish in a rubbish bin. The various sorting compartments are confusing for a non-native speaker, but eventually I worked it out, after mistakenly putting rubbish in a resident’s bin!
Self-catering is a cheap yet luxurious option. The standard of living is high in Oberstdorf and this is reflected in the accommodation. Where I stayed I had morning rolls delivered and all mod cons in the kitchen.
I shall definitely be returning to Oberstdorf.
