lots of good beer by kiltedbarrister
Slovakia is a frustrating place.
see,
you need to know at least
two languages to get around.
that’s cool and all,
and I dig speaking other languages,
but, the problem is
that Slovak is really tough.
bewildering, even.
its orthography is different from Polish
(which some say is even harder)
and even Czech.
so the problem is,
if you learn Polish,
Slovak is even harder to understand.
like,
“mieso” in Polish
becomes mäso in Slovak.
yes, there’s an
umlaut in a Slavic
language.
they say I speak Polish
with a Slovak accent.
does that mean that I speak Slovak
with a Polish accent?
so,
you will really need to know German
to get around
and order stuff.
but the food is great,
the people are nice
(once you get to know them)
and there’s not too many tourists there
- yet –
so you will have
a lot of the country
to yourself.
it’s just a little rougher than Poland
and Hungary.
(but not as rough as Ukraine,
from what I hear.)
and there’s lots of good beer
and food with paprika in it
and an Andy Warhol museum.
so go visit soon.
