I think there are places to kayak.
There are exotic locations that are beautiful, like Galapagos.
And there are vibrant and growing economies, cultures, such as those in Laos.
Are you from around there—Oregon?

Not far from Powell’s actually—7-hour drive.
I’ve enjoyed your various comments this morning, Tarik. I woke up too early and couldn’t get back to sleep. I’ve been reading your ideas, as I had a half hour before it was time to get my household going. I’ve got four children of varying ages from high school to kindergarten. They and their wonderful conventional Dad are the principles of my life for now.
I do expect to do some full-time service work somewhere when Brett’s retired and our kids are grown. We know the avenue we will use but not the exact nature of the service. Both our folks are considering this same thing right now. My dad’s got some dental work to suffer through first, and his dad has to figure out what to do about all his goats…

There are several farmers in our county who raise goats. You might suggest to Brett’s Dad to post the sale notice on a locally visited web site or radio show—somewhere in your part of Idaho, possibly. I think farmers here like goats because the soil is not very good for as many crops as Midwestern soil, say.
I just got back from listening to reports on a visit to the mission in Prague, by a group from the local Baptist Church. While I am skeptical of the motivations of many missionaries, this IS one way to get abroad and have some support network.
Hope you got a nap in there. Even one or two children make for quite an active day. We have two very young children. I was one of four. I remember that too.

I think Dad’s worried about his goats and doesn’t want to just sell them off to anyone. 58 babies this year! They’re so cute…we’re visiting Brett’s folks now. (Brett, incidentally, is one of 12).
Missionary work is the avenue I referred to above. My aunt and uncle are serving in Nigeria right now. I’ve been close enough to enough senior-couple missionaries to underestand the motivation.
And interestingly, I just noticed in our church’s newspaper that Laos (also on my list) was just dedicated for missionary service.
