i was here to help run a youth athletic camp one week, which was based out of chicago. and the 3-4 hour drive was certainly worth it. what a great city. some of the nicest people ever and a nice relaxed atmosphere. and the park system they’ve got here is outstanding…i was very impressed. very scenic views of the cedar river, and a very lovely downtown. the downtown is quite big, i think it could almost compete with milwaukee’s. however, it hasn’t attracted as many people one would think. two firmly established retail/dining areas. one off of edgewood on the west side and one on the north side near marion. a good selection of homes. not sure on the government culture here, but the city seems to be doing OK. a fine balance between manufacturing, office, and agriculture…as far as jobs go. feels like you’re living in a small town yet with all of the conveniences of the city.
