Technically - I have been here

However – it was so long ago that I am adding this as a new place and not marking it off yet. A friend saw Bobby Flay go there on a show this weekend and asked me about it. Since I’m a BIG maple lover (did you try the Maple Latte at Starbucks? hope it isn’t seasonal) I recommended it and will try to check it out again soon.

Looks like you are pretty far from NH

But when you do make it there, this would be a good stop.

mmmm....

I love maple syrup too!

I went to a Maple House (or sugar shack it might have been called?) here in NY when I was younger and I went to a different one a few years back. It brings back lovely memories and I will love to take Mark here when he moves to NY. Several of the maple houses here in NY have Pancake Breakfast once a year in the spring. This usually includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage patties, juice, and maple syrup! Mmm mmm mmm! I simply must find one this spring with Mark. I wonder if the one I went to a couple years back is here on 43things :-)

Yum - maple syrup

There is something so delicious about sausages and maple syrup. When we were kids there was always a school field trip to a local sugar shack. I remember the heady maple smoke and little samples of warm maple syrup that we would pour onto a handful of snow and eat.

Here is a recipe for a salad dressing using maple syrup that is always a huge hit:

Maple Cream Dressing

Ingredients:
¾ cup oil (combo of olive and salad)
2 ½ TBSP Dijon mustard
3 TBSP maple syrup
2 TBSP balsamic vinegar
¼ cup half & half
Salt & pepper
1 clove garlic – scored

Directions:
Whisk together all ingredients except the garlic. Add the garlic, let dressing sit overnight then remove.

Hope you try it, Sissy

It is easy to make, tastes incredible and stores for a couple of weeks.

Let me know if you make it.

well....

I’ve yet to make it and with a New Year’s Resolution of losing weight I’m not sure if I will as it calls for half and half :-) But maybe I’ll have it anyhow! What sorts of salad does it taste good with spinach or lettuce? Do you put a variety of veggies on the salad or would that taste funny with such a sweet sounding maple cream dressing?

Also, it says to use 3/4 cup oil… olive and salad. I’m wondering what kind of oil to use… all olive oil? I’m not sure what salad oil is.

I have a good spinach salad dressing recipe that calls for vinegar, olive oil, honey, and cinnamon. It’s quite good and I wonder if this maple cream would be along the same lines. Also, wondering if I can substitute that fat free half and half crap instead of using the fattening kind?

Thanks, Mary!
