The hike is by no means for beginners. If you have a decent amount of hiking/backpacking experience though, and take a few steps to mitigate the risk of crossing the Teklanika, it’s definitely doable.

The bus is still remarkably intact (or was when I visited it about a year ago in June of 2009.) It’s a moving experience to step into that bus. Nobody truly knows all the circumstances involved in Chris’ situation. In doing research for my project, I found out a lot of interesting details, and lets just say that Krakauer’s “Into the Wild” is by no means the last word on the subject.
