Absolutely awesome by jkorab
I have been meaning to get to Prague since I moved back to Europe about 7 years ago. If you’re from the UK when you think about the city these days, thoughts will probably be of stag parties. What I found was quite different. Step outside the immediate tourist district (which is going to be same-ish wherever you go) and you’ll find a city studded with art galleries, classical music, stunning architecture and really friendly people (as well as the beer, which you have to admit is worth travelling for, hence the stags). It’s a multi-faceted city, and what you’ll get from visiting it will completely depend on why you’re there. My folks, who had visited during communism from Poland went on and on about how awesome it was. The Bohemian bars, cafes, art – and all that’s still there. But to not romanticise the cold war era – Prague’s looking a whole lot better (even if it does have a few cheap trinket shops around). The view of the castle (hrad) from the river on a clear, snowing night is one of the most romantic sights on Earth. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it and will definitely return.
