Miserable Spring Break! by Mona Mayfair
I went to Cancun when I was fifteen with the Spanish Club from my school for Spring Break. I went to the Hard Rock Cafe, we toured Chichen Itza and Uxmal, and also explored the city of Merida. For most of the trip, I just wanted to go home. It was way too hot, all the tours of the Mayan ruines were on foot in 100+ degrees, which is less fun that it might sound, and the food wasn’t very good down there either. Cancun was kind of like a city here, very American. Tourist city. The beach was pretty, the water is a different shade of blue there and the sand is white. It was kind of cool laying on the beah for a little while, the staff from the resorts along the shore come out to you and take drink orders and then bring them back to you. But I seriously would rather have watched a special on the Mayans on the History Channel or National Georgraphic than actually gone there in person and suffered through the heat.
