How do we stop the genocide?
Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

My email address is somewildthingsgo{a}gmail[point]com. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this. I’m not sure where you live, but if you happen to be coming through Toronto in the next month or so there’s an amazing play on genocide on right now at the CanStage Berkeley Theatre, and my own research about the Rwandan and Armenian genocides have led to me to a number of sources you may find insightful and/or heartbreaking. There’s a Canadian organisation I’m nominally part of based in Ottawa working to push the Canadian government to act now to stop the genocide, but I have, I think, been reneging on my duties as a human being to stand up for what I believe in and fight back against this brutal injustice. Please, let me know your thoughts. You might also read “I, Rigoberta Menchu” by same.

One way all of us can start to get more involved is by learning as much as we can about Sudan and what is going on there now. I suggest those interested go to this link:

I think if we learn more about Sudan and its peoples, we may begin to see a glimmer of possibility. I do not know the answers, but I have faith that with prayer and knowledge one can begin to find a path to resolution.
For anyone interested, I have found a web site on how to learn Dinka.

Oh, and by the way, I wonder what you all might think of this short story, set in Darfur. Written by Ronald Currie, Jr., and published in the December 2005 issue of The Sun, it poses the problem, what if G-d came to Darfur? It’s more complex than that, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. It made an impression on me, and for one, is what got me interested in the Dinka.
