Salzburg is a nice town. I’d leave it out of most trip itineraries, however, as it’s not all that interesting. The best feature is the old city center, which is charming and easily walkable. But you can get a more remarkable old-city experience in, say, Venice.

I preferred nearby Innsbruck to Salzburg because of the picturesque Alps.
