Tokyo
Worth visiting!
Capital of the World (for the time being...)
It’s noisy, it’s crowdy, the subway stations are hell-holes in the Summer, rents and Hotel room rates go up and up, but nothing beats NYC in diversity, culture and energy! Just come on down n enjoy the capital of the world. For inexpensive lodging at great location try YMCA, right by the Central Park West and Lincoln Center.
Must do:
*Eat soup-dumplings at ‘Joe’s Shanghai’ restaurant on Pehl Street, Chinatown
*Visit Museum of Nat History and Science, MOMA, Metropolitan Museum, Guggenheim, and Whitney, at least.
*Wander around back alleys of SOHO, NOHO, try street art scene at Chelsea’s art Gallery area.
*Wander around Central Park (it’s safe nowawadays) and go boat rowing, ice-skating at Woolman Rink in the winter.
*Take a Staten Island Ferry Boat (free round-trip) and see the Statue of Liberty, view skylines of Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, and the bridges.
*Shop for bargains at the “Century 21” close-out store next to former World Trade Center or take a bus ride to (free ride) Woobury Commons, factory-outlets, 1 1/2 hr northwest of Manhattan. Great drive if rent a car and go via Palisades Parkway. It’s worth the car rental money if you share amongst friends and come back at your leisure time. Last free bus back to Manhattan leaves around 5pm.
*Smoke a great stogies at Club Macanudo on 26 East 63rd Street. Fine joint without the snob and snub. No blue jeans and snickers for both ladies n gents. Wednesdays, has great live latin music.
*see a Broadway show or off-Broadway shows. A must is classic events at Lincoln Center.
*for fun and great seafood, try ordering fresh oysters, shellfishes, fried chicken with honey, by sitting at the bar. You avoid the line and get great food. For more restaurant tips email me at sam@tablethotels.com
