Not worth visiting!

Untitled

maybe just personal, but i just didn’t like the place. it could be the fact that i was stuck there after driving all the way up through b.c. to get on the ferry to go up to ak, but its sooo little and there seemed to be nothing there worth traveling up to see.

Prince Rupert

I love Prince Rupert, BC Canada!!!

I love Prince Rupert, BC Canada!!! As a born and raised Rupertite I have come to appreciate certain things about our little community. PR is situated on Kaien Island in the northwest coast of Beautiful British Columbia. I think it’s pretty cool that we are accessible by automobile, plane, sea vessels and train – no kidding! The First Nations people have been here for 10,000 years. I get to meet people from all over the world without setting foot off the island! We have a remarkable diverse cultural population of currently 14000 people. On our island, it is so easy to get around – great bus transit and taxicab company. You can stroll anywhere with relative ease. I’ve walked from the west end of the island to east end in less than an hour. Along the way you’ll encounter friendly people. Soaring bald eagles and deer are a frequent sight, even right in the middle of our downtown core. We had black bear sighting but mainly on the outskirts of town and along the highway. Recently we’ve had wolve sightings as well, but this is rare! People that love camping, hiking and fishing will love Prince Rupert. One of the latest incentives in the month of July 2006 to August 2006 is a $100,000.00 cash prize for the person that is lucky to capture the largest coho salmon! (Hmmm…I might have to try my hand at fishing this month.) Our local public library was the first ever to win a technical science award for its boat library idea. I love my library, too by the way! I used to think it was so wierd that people would want to visit an old historic cannery in Port Edward, our neighbouring community, a 20 minute drive from us…you cross the bridge linking us to the mainland of British Columbia for that trip, although you might not even realize it until it’s pointed out to you! Then I visited the cannery again myself a couple of years later and was astonished at the work that went into restoring it. You want to have a couple of hours to explore this ( another award winning site). The trip along the cannery road is an adventure in itself really!!! Prince Rupert is noted for its cooler climate and rainy days but with it we get the most brilliant rainbows I have ever seen. Dependent on the time of year of your visit, you can even see the Northern Lights or although snow is not so common here, we did get a good dump of snow for a couple of day in the middle of April this year! Myself, I think the very best thing is the view from Mt Hays which is about a 20 minute bumpy drive up the mountain and a fun hike too. The most beautiful site for me was watching the sun setting into the western mountains as the fog rolled in behind it and the full moon rising in the east. Somedays you just gotta be here. You will just have to come and see for yourself. Don’t forget to drop by and say “Hi” to me!
