This is it, folks where news of the new world arrived to the old world 1 March,1493,an event celebrated by a pagaent every year that involves dressing up in"appropriate" clothing, eating and drinking, very enjoyable it is too.
The village is dominated by the Parador, old interesting buildings taken over by the government and turned into hotels. In Bayona the Parador was a castle in a past life, sadly there is no plaque to mark the fact that I spent my honeymoon night here..
The village has an old part with lots of narrow streets, very quaint and enjoyable to walk through, and lots of new flats which are dull to look at but give a hint to how popular the place is in summer.
Summer is very lively,ok if you don’t like crowds can be too much but the tourists do give the place a buzz and provide many locals with a living.
A definite must visit if you’re ever in Galicia.
