Aaaamen, sister!! The reason I found this site was because I did a “Port Charlotte Sucks” word search and here you are! Your comment that you’ve never been so depressed in your life hit the nail on the head for me! I feel the same way. This is, by FAR, the worst place I’ve ever lived (and I grew up in Cincinnati!). The people here so so unbelievably RUDE RUDE RUDE!! I thought Cincinnati was getting pretty rude, so I left, but Port Charlotte is like nothing I’ve ever seen! People are beyond rude here, they’re downright nasty, mean and have a total “I-don’t-give-a-crap-about-anything” attitude. Nobody says hello or smiles, they just glare at you. If you’re in the mood to feel homicidal, spend an hour in the Wal-Mart up in Murdock Circle. I just about have smoke coming out of my ears every time I walk out of that Hellhole. I might run into 2 people out of 100 that have any manners at all in this county. I used to think that old people were cute, but not anymore. They too, are rude and grouchy here. Unfortunately, Florida is changing at a blinding pace. I think the problem is that this state is getting loads of @$$#*^%’s from every corner of the world here. The worst seem to be people from the New York region, Michigan, Canada, Ohio (my home state) and I really have gotten to despise douchebags from Germany!!! You get to the point where your blood boils when you see an out-of-state license plate. Also, my hubby recently spoke to a retired DEA agent who said that Charlotte County has the worst drug problem of all the counties in Florida. Meth is a huge problem here, among other things. There is a different breed of people taking over down here and Florida’s going down the toilet fast. Florida is rapidly turning into a crowded expensive playground. Someday soon normal people like us won’t even be able to afford to come down and vacation, let alone live here. The kids that are growing up here will never be able to afford a house in their own home town, and will be forced to leave their state. My husband and I are moving to Tennessee because we can’t stand the people here anymore. Many other people we know that have lived here for a long time are doing the same exact thing we are… going to Tennessee or North Carolina. The laid-back Florida crackers are being pushed out by the rudeness and ignorance. We have just sold our house and should close on it in about 30 days (still WAY too far off for me!). In the meantime, I dream of being up in TN, and I wake up in the morning and realize I’m still in this town and I feel miserable. I’m so stressed about being here that I have chest pains. I’m too young for heart problems, but I went through all the tests anyway. It turns out to be all anxiety and my doctor just put me on Xanax to keep me relaxed until we can get the heck out of this lousy place. I say LET all the rude idiots keep moving here, and maybe the whole state will fall off into the Gulf. Thanks, Superkat for starting this thread so I could vent my hatred of this place! You’re right, it’s definitely NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!
