Why I want to go to this place  — 5 months ago

Well, my husband and I will be laid over at the airport in Rome for 10 hours on our trip from Tunis to Cairo. Is it feasable to leave the airport and see any of the sights during this lay-over? Are there any great places to see close to the airport? We might just have a meal or enjoy coffee at a cafe. Any suggestions? I am just excited to be able to leave the airport and have a look around. I am not an experienced traveler, but is this possible?

Ostia Antica

You have about 5 hours net (collecting bags, train ride, etc.) to visit some place, which is enough to grab the train and be in the city center.

But not far from the airport there is wonderful Ostia Antica the ancient Roman port. A smaller Pompei-like city that is very interesting to visit. That is a 15 minutes taxi ride from the airport so you’d increase your net visiting time to hours… more than enough to see Ostia Antica.

A second for Ostia Antica

I’ve not been to Ostia, but I have gone from FCO to Rome. It does take forever.

Having been to other ruined Roman towns, I can vouch for the fun factor.
