Emerald Bay

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place  — 5 months ago

I didn’t know it at the time, but my life was about to change dramatically. I visited Lake Tahoe last September (2007) for the first time and absolutely fell in love with the beauty. It’s hard to imagine there were Indians who once called the terrain surrounding the Lake home.
The water is incredible; clear, all the blues in the crayon box and more, and so cold. There is a lichen or moss that grows on many of the trees, particularly deadwood evergreens along the Truckee River, that absolutely glows a pale lime green.
Bike paths, incredible vistas, and quiet.
Large, sweeping, refreshing quiet.
Upon my return, I learned that the love of my life, who had asked me to marry him last July, was seeing someone else.
Talk about a retreat.

I leave in two weeks to return to Tahoe. An artist friend and her husband own a condo at Carnelian Bay, which is ideally situated with regards to all the Tahoe amenities. I have yet to go when there is snow.
This visit I will be baptised by the those glacial blue waters. Not in a religious sense…or maybe, sort of…I just want to get into that beautiful water, no matter how cold!
A guess it will be a closure of sorts, and a renewal. The before (September) and now the after.
The man in question left this week for Boston and New Hampshire for two and a half weeks; to meet the new woman’s family and take her to his family reunion. Wonderful.

I am dating, preparing to take the GRE, building a new portfolio (will attempt acceptance in the Painting Masters program at SCAD in January for classes beginning Fall 2009) and focusing on my new life (still). It’s a process.
Boy do I go on or what? Pardon my seque.

Anyway…Lake Tahoe is definitely worth the visit and plane fare. Hiking trails, the views, the trees, the water…it’s worth the visit.
