Iowa City
Given that a Texan wouldn’t be happy any where except Texas, it’s a difficult question!
Yeah, a Texan could live in Iowa City but would the Texan be happy?
(You asked a simple question, and you get a philosophical discussion….)
I think the thing that would be most difficult to get used to would be the weather. It gets really cold here. And for several months in a row. So if that bothers you, Iowa might not be a good place.
Iowa is mostly a conservative, agricultural state. The exceptions being Iowa City (which is VERY liberal) and possibly Ames. Both of these cities are home to major Iowa universities.
It’s a very safe, friendly place. Great for raising kids. Kids can actually play and be kids without too much worry about some of the awful things that can happen.
We do have crime, but it’s low and usually of the non-violent type (depending on where you live).
Anyway, I hope this helps. If you need anything more info, let me know! :-)

Austin
I’m a native texan and when I was in Iowa City it was very nice and I felt very comfortable. The weather was pretty chilly and I wore a peacoat the whole time. Mind you I was there during Spring Break so it was a comlete 180 for me since we Texans are used to the heat! What the last guy said about how Iowa City is liberal and what not it reminded me of Austin. I live there and when comparing both cities they are well, some what similar. Both are liberal and college cities. Of course Austin is huge and has a lot to offer and ya know, it’s in Texas haha. To end this, it pretty much comes down to the weather. If you can’t take the cold come back to Texas!
