Lake Mývatn

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 3 months ago

Paradise for bird lovers. And for those who are not, some fabulous volcanic scenery, e.g. pseudocraters. These look like volcanic craters, but were actually formed by gas bursting through surface lava.

Beware of the midges in the summer (Myvatn means “Midge Lake”) – delicious for the waterbirds, a real pain for humans! Though when I was there (early September) there didn’t seem to be any around.

Comments:

I have always wanted to visit Iceland

Thanks for these recent entries! My desire to visit Iceland has now been elevated to 43 Places status.

I really want to go EVERYwhere, and to return to almost every place I’ve been (notably excepting Las Vegas, Nevada); I list only my “top” destinations on 43 Places. :)

You're welcome!

Posting all these entries makes me want to re-visit these places too, even though there are other areas of Iceland that I still haven’t seen! Like Snæfellsjökull which featured in “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”.

Too many places to (re)visit and not enough time or space on 43places! :)

Me too

Iceland has been on my personal list of places to see someday since I was about 14 or 15.

One of these days I’m going to have to just break down and do it. But I might wait for the US $ to first gain a bit more of its strength back.

Wow

It looks, and sounds amazing, crisps. Thanks for the recommendation.
