Worth visiting!

A Beautiful Memorial to an Outstanding Accomplishment

I loved my previous nocturnal visits to this monument. It is beautifully illuminated. This was my first visit during the daytime.

This monument makes me think about a great period in history and the many people who made so many sacrifices of all kinds in order to build a better world.

The monument itself recognizes each of the (then) 48 states and US territories. It also recognizes many of the great campaigns in both the European and Pacific theaters of the war.

The setting of the memorial, between the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool, with the Lincoln Memorial, further in the distance is an ideal location. It is a peaceful, reflective, and happy place.

Thanks for sharing this one

This memorial was not built when I went to DC. When I saw your entry I took a look at their web site and I see it was only opened in 2004. If I am fortunate enough to return to DC I must visit this one.

My father was one of the U.S. Army Filipinos in the Bataan Death March in WWII. So I have some idea of the sacrifices made by him and others of his generation. I’m very happy to see this beautiful memorial on the Mall.
