Worth visiting!

An undisturbed mountain town. No, really.

I moved to Denver in August 2005 and was unimpressed with city life. On November 1, I’ll be moving to Nederland, “Ned” for short. It’s about 8,000 feet in elevation, with views of mountain peaks, pines, aspens, and a gorgeous mountain lake right outside town. Wish me luck!

I highly recommend this town to anyone. It’s along the Peak to Peak Highway, and it’s beautiful, so come see me at Neapolitan’s Italian Restaurant and say hi!

Nederland

I live in Maryland and will be moving to Colorado in a few months. It seems to be easiest to find jobs in Denver, but I also do not want to live in the city. I have been to Nederland and really wanna move there. I can’t seem to find a single apartment to rent though, is it all houses out there? And do you think it would be ridiculous to love in Ned but work in Denver?

Wow, what timing. In three days, I’ll actually be moving out of Nederland. Neapolitan’s closed, plus I miss friends and family, and it’s easier to support myself in Missouri than in Colorado.

I’d still encourage you to move there, though! I lived in Denver first and found it overwhelming. Then again, I lived a block off Colfax in Capitol Hill.

I don’t think you’d want to live in Ned and work in Denver, but a lot of Ned residents work in Boulder, which is about 20-30 minutes away by bus or car. Personally, I get really nauseous coming down the mountain—that’s one consideration you don’t want to leave out.

I’d been living in a room for rent, which worked out quite well. I had 3 roommates in the house and two more downstairs. There aren’t a lot of apartments, but I’ve seen a few open up temporarily. There are several places to check for available ones, including B&F (the grocery store), the laundromat, Happy Trails (coffeeshop in a train car), or the bulletin board at Backcountry (a pizza place).

If you’d like to e-mail me at butterfly_peace@yahoo.com, I’d be happy to give you my ex-landlord’s name and number. The other roommate on the bottom floor is moving at the end of March, so you should have a good shot at getting in to the house. Rent was $375 + utilities, usually around $125/mo.

Good luck with whatever you do! Nederland is a beautiful town and I hope you’ll be very happy there.
