I never really ‘got’ Monet, from the pictures I’d seen it all just looked a bit messy. But seeing some of his work up close I must say I was impressed. Standing close to the painting, the canvas is covered in an abundance of coloured paint strokes, and when stepping back, the picture reveals itself. I wondered whether Monet himself would keep taking a step back while painting.
