Worth visiting!

The best vacation I ever took.

Yet another of my dad’s well-planned family get-togethers took us to Athens for a few days, then here for a week. We rented a villa right on the beach in Horto. It was deep summer, the weather was incredible. The fact that it was my first as a working adult meant I actually needed the complete relaxation adnd it delivered in spades.

We had an amazing dinner in a small hamlet, the name of which escapes me, up the hills from Milina. Chairs and tables from three restaurants shared the village square in such a disorganized way that I have no idea how the staff knew who was eating from which place. The meat was amazing, the retsina wine surprisingly delicate and the bill was so cheap we felt like were robbing the place. Walking back through the old cobbled streets, I fleetingly saw the most beautiful girl in all of Greece. When I go back, will she still be there?

The only thing it was missing was a better nightlife in the area more into the peninsula. My sister and I talked about living there for some time and opening a pub or club so the local kids and tourists would have somewhere to party, too. I suppose there were a few tavernas here and there, but no place for some proper dancing. And you really don’t wanna go drinking in one of the bigger towns and then have to drive back in the dark on those insanely twisting mountain roads.
