I went to Brevard in 2004 with friends. Went hiking, wandered around. Drank coffee in both coffee shops, and had excellent greasy pub food. I think this is the only small town I’ve ever been to, that I could live in.

My cousin lives in nearby Pisgah Forest. My partner and I went to visit her Christmas, 2003. We roamed on foot among the enormous rhododendrons, lurched our heads round to catch better views of pileated woodpeckers. In town, we got the Albino Squirrel Tour around the local college campus and sauntered at length through the simply-not-to-be-missed Aluminum Tree And Aesthetically Challenged Seasonal Ornament Museum And Research Center. I agree, it seemed a liveable place, for a small town.
