Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

All summer we enjoy festival after festival, and on the weekends there are no festivals there are always free concerts around town. These are not the average local band shows though. In the last two years, for instance, I saw, (for free if you park in Greektown Casino and get your parking validated) dickie betts, grand funk, stanley jordan, styx, asia, bad company, puddle of mudd, blue oyster cult, collective union of souls (sp), taj mahal, james cotton, funk brothers, sponge, rascal flatts, the largest fireworks display in north america, unlimited hydroplane races, the grand prix, (some days I see so many acts I can’t remember), Larry Coryell, chaka kahn, dave brubeck, solomon burke, techno fest, b-52’s, parliment funkadelics, etc. I seriously can’t remember all the acts that play here that i have seen for free. But keep in mind, I work 60 hrs a week during the summer season so its hard to make all the shows. I would gladly provide any tourist with advice for their trip. Its the most over looked city in the country. And I haven’t even listed the shows that cost money. By the way, DTE concert theater almost always offers $5 dollar lawn seats all major acts, they just don’t announce that. This place really does rock. See ya next season.

Detroit

KUDOS to you! I am originally from Detroit (Dearborn Heights) so I totally agree that there is soooooooo much to do there. I have lived in a little town (with a BIG lake) in California for 4 1/2 years and I miss home. Born & raised there in Detroit.

kudos back at ya

The city has come a long way in four years. I know the Heights very well, had a wife from there once, (not a good post story), and I also had a home in Redford for 7 years. If you get back some summer weekend, there is a new series of shows directly behind the ren-cen that are free. This is along the new river walk, which, now that the funding is in place, will include a walk along the water with parks condo’s etc., that will stretch all the way to Belle Isle. The most fun about the city now is, and this may seem a little selfish, is that people still don’t realize the change that has occurred. MGM and Motor-city Casino’s new buildings are up and open, and a new complex next to Hard Rock and Compuware will break ground this spring and Rock Financial is also building a new complex downtown. BTW, when you come back, try to bring a couple extra jobs. thanks for the reply.
