I would recommend the Dioskouros Guesthouse, they are very cheap, friendly, and in a fantastic location. I lived there for two weeks this past summer until my apartment was ready. They are two blocks from the heart of Plaka and a 5 minute walk from the Acropolis.

I stayed in Herodion Hotel which is also very close to the Acropolis and Plaka, and is adjacent to the new Acropolis museum. The price was reasonable but not super cheap as I recall. It was really nice though I’d stay there again if I went back! Their website is at http://www.herodion.gr/
Good Luck!

Well, I stayed at the Hostel Zeus, it wasn’t the greatest but I am a guy so I can rough it a bit, and I don’t know if all the rooms are the same-maybe some were nicer.
It did the trick though at 15 euro a day and it was about 5/10 minutes away from the Acropolis. Send me a message (email) and I’ll give you some more info on cool places to go while there:)

We stayed at the Victor Hugo. It was safe, clean, reasonable and still within (long) walking distance of our intended sites, as expected.
However, our stoppover in Athens was a last minute change in plans, and it was very hard to find a priced place (anywhere near where we wanted to be) that still had a vacancy! The next time I go, I’d like to check out the Dioskouros Guesthouse (see Rachel’s comment above), because it is a much closer walk to the places I want to go.

i stayed at athens backpackers which i absolutely loved!! it was right off the metro and minutes away from the acropolis as well as many of the other sites. They have clean and comfy accommodations, friendly staff, kitchen and i think free breakfast. The owners were really nice and offered day trip excursions to many other cities including delphi. They also had a rooftop bar with inexpensive drinks and a beautiful view of the acropolis and night.
I cannot say enough about this hostel! I would definitely stay here again!

I also stayed at the athen’s backpacker. The location is great you can walk everywhere. we stayed at a 6 or 8 people shared room which has a bathroom in it. the breakfast is free but it’s really basic: bread, boiled eggs, coffee. We were there for 2 nights and it was enough to visit everything around athens. Try to get there on sundays, i think some of the sites are free.

NitNatty—I highly recommend The Student and Travellers Inn (student-travellersinn.com), which is in the heart of Ahtens. It is a little bit difficult to find, but what a find it is! May you have good travels!—”Juanito”
