Worth visiting!

A tip I have about this place

Some info on the customs:

Alcohol and tobacco are controlled substances in Iceland as in other reasonable Scandinavian countries. Prices for these substances are high in the country. Smoking in all public spaces, including bars and cafés, is illegal and littering can land you a fine of ~160$.

As to give some leeway to travelers though, some importing of these substances is allowed. More specifically you can bring in up to:

  • 1 liter of strong liquor (>22%) and 1 liter of light wine /
  • 1 liter of strong liquor and 6 liters of beer /
  • 1 liter of light wine and 6 liters of beer or
  • 2,25 1 liters of light wine

If you take more you will have to pay toll up to the local price. I recommend you declare any controlled substance over the limit as required by law.

The top for tobacco is one carton of cigarettes (200 pieces) or 250g of other tobacco.

The minimum age for importing/purchasing alcohol is 20 years and 18 years for tobacco.
