IIRC the town was named by a former Oxford professor who named it Oxford-on-the-Hill, which was eventually shortened to Oxon Hill. The town has definitely declined since we moved away many years ago (or perhaps memory plays tricks on me), so I don’t visit any more—or if I do, I keep the windows rolled up and the car doors locked.
