Worth visiting!

A question about this place:
Another food question: I've heard there are some amazing "underground" restaurants in Hong Kong usually specialising in a particular dish. Anyone know anything about these?  — 3 years ago

I did find this story in the New York Times:

Honestly, I found amazing food just walking around. One of the best cities I’ve ever been to for eating. Right up there with Florence.

That Hong Kong is a great place to eat goes without saying. But the point of a site like this is to build up shared knowlege from the specific experiences of locals and travelers.

I’m interested in people’s experiences at these speakeasy-style restaurants, a testament to the city’s great love of food if there ever was one.

They are called ‘underground restaurant’ because these are unlisenced restaurant, but they serve very good and authentic dishes.

The actual name for them should be ‘Lao Shiong Chan Teng’ translated which means ‘Upstairs Restaurant’.

One of the very good example is the Yellow Door Kitchen. This is one of the earliest ‘Upstairs Restaurant’ but their business was so good that they are now legitimate.
